Center for Business
and Industry
The Center for Business and Industry is designed to serve the
employee or prospective employee of the business and industry
community. This modern facility is located on Fayetteville Technical
Community College's main campus (2801 Ft. Bragg Road) and is primarily
used for local business and industry training. Services are generally
concerned with educational programs required to upgrade skills in
businesses and industries throughout the county. The Small Business
Center is located in this facility and offers a variety of services
designed to assist small business owners to include specialized
seminars, a resource center, business counselor, and a statewide
network. The latest in literature and audiovisual materials on
operating a small business are available in the Small Business Center's
resource room. A small business counselor is available at the Small
Business Center to provide advice on starting a new business or
operating an existing business. Through the Center for Business and
Industry, the Continuing Education Division is offering another
dimension of customized courses with flexible schedules and quality
instruction.
The mission of the Fayetteville Technical Community College Small
Business Center is to improve the success rate of small businesses
throughout the service area.
Are you considering a new business venture? Expansion? Perhaps you
just need help with an existing business plan. Have you developed a
business plan? What about market research? Do you understand cash flow,
break-even analysis, finance, record keeping and taxes? It is necessary
for you to use a CPA and/or an attorney? What form of business entity
will best suit you? We are in the business of helping businesses
succeed. Whether it is through additional training, one-on-one
counseling or providing the contacts and information you need, we are
here to assist you.
SPECIALIZED BUSINESS SEMINARS
Each term specialized seminars are offered which are designed to
improve your management or technical skills from the basics of how to
start your own business to the complexities of record keeping and taxes.
RESOURCE ROOM
Literature, small business computer programs and audiovisual materials
are available for your use. Handouts from The Small Business
Administration are available. Come by and ask about our services.
SMALL BUSINESS COUNSELOR
A counselor is available on Tuesdays to provide you with advice on
starting a new business, operating your business or refer you to a
number of local, state or federal agencies that can answer your
questions.
R.E.A.L.
R.E.A.L. stands for "Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning. "
NC R.E.A.L. Enterprises, a nonprofit organization based in Durham, NC,
works with selected community colleges across North Carolina to provide
adults of all ages with the opportunity to become entrepreneurs. This
unique program is now available at Fayetteville Technical Community
College.
FTCC's R.E.A.L. program is designed to assist and empower a person
with entrepreneurial interests and abilities to plan and start a
business or trade. Prior business experience and/or courses are not
required. If you would like to create a business from a talent, skill
or idea you have, and you are willing to work to make it a reality,
R.E.A.L. is for you!
The Business Services area of FTCC Continuing Education, located in
the Center for Business and Industry, helps business, governmental
agencies, and medical organizations by customizing educational programs
and training courses for employees. The staff is available to assess,
design and implement appropriate courses to meet the needs of business
in the following and in other areas.
Supervisory Skills
Improved supervisory skills can contribute in a significant manner to
employee productivity. The Center's staff can assist business and
industry in developing and evaluating training programs to meet staff
members' needs ranging from general management skills, finance and
marketing to manufacturing management. FTCC is proud to offer the
American Management Association Certificate in Management program that
provides 126 hours of supervisory and management training for
businesses and professionals.
Communication
Good verbal and written communication in an organization are essential.
The Center's staff has developed seminars ranging from proper telephone
usage for the secretarial staff to effective business letter writing
for managers.
Computer Training
Specialized Classes can be designed to provide training on software
programs such as Windows, Office, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point,
Internet Use, and other business oriented software.
Instructor Training
Workshops are available to assist personnel in becoming more proficient
instructors, for example "Training the Trainer" and "Team Development"
workshops are offered.
License Support Training
Classes are designed for various professional groups, such as Real
Estate, Insurance, Day Care, Funeral Service, and the National
Executive Housekeeping Association to assist in maintaining existing
licenses.
SBTDC training programs are developed to meet the needs of small to
medium-sized companies. The educational programs focus on change
management, strategic positioning, and leadership development. The
SBTDC also offers specialized programs in technology development and
commercialization, international trade development, planning,
registering business, financing, regulations, licensing, manufacturing
and other disciplines. Some of the programs offered by SBTDC are:
Strategic Needs Assessment
This assessment helps owners and managers identify priorities and
action strategies to evaluate their company in such areas as management
vision, finance, marketing, human resources, operations, and
information technology.
NxLeveL™
NxLeveL enhances entrepreneurial skills by providing a practical,
hands-on approach to developing a business action plan. This 12-week
program is conducted by SBTDC counselors and prominent local business
leaders. The SBTDC also offers NxLeveL training for people interested
in starting a business.
Management Performance Workshops
The Management Performance Series is tailored to a company's priorities
in such areas as team building, attracting and retaining key people,
sales performance, customer service, and career development.
Strategic Performance Retreats
Strategic Performance Retreats assist companies in strategic planning
and positioning to help them gain long-term competitive advantage.
Leadership Performance
Leadership Performance Workshop series helps participants enhance their
ability to lead through inevitable periods of change and learn what it
takes to be a leader of the future.
Change Management Performance
The SYMMETREE® Simulation
SYMMETREE is an intensive, research-based, two-day program that not
only identifies change management skills but also allows participants
to experience and practice them.

Fayetteville Business Center is a small business that operates to
enhance economic development in Fayetteville and Cumberland County by
stimulating the growth and development of small business concerns in
the area. The incubator is designed to support new and emerging
businesses in the service and light manufacturing arena by providing
modestly-priced office space and facilities and by providing needed
counseling on business issues, such as operations, planning and
marketing. To gain access to the incubator, a new or emerging company
must demonstrate a strong need for the Fayetteville Business Center's
rental space and services. It must also be determined from a review of
the company's business plan and interview with the principals that a
business has a reasonable chance to become successful given the right
circumstances.

Women's Center of Fayetteville offers classes and workshops for
entrepreneurs starting a new business, expanding or improving an
existing business, or pursuing a home-based business. Some of the
classes offered by the center are Getting Started, SBA, IRS and DOL
Info, Know Your Credit, QuickBooks and others.
